Pernambuco: your next destination
Pernambuco is the second most remembered destination by Brazilians who intend to travel in the next two years, according to a survey by the Tourism Ministry. The desire to experience the states’ beauty and charm is not restricted to domestic tourists. Large hotel networks have been attracted and are investing in the state.
At least ten new hotels should be constructed by 2012, creating almost 70,000 new direct and indirect jobs. These investments are also helped by the fact that Brazil will host the 2014 World Cup, with Recife hosting games in the group stage.
The new investments alone add up to more than R$4.7 billion. As supplementary assistance the Tourism Secretary of Pernambuco will invest a further US$250 million in infrastructure over the next five years, and R$ 15 million per year in marketing. Another aim in benefit of those working in the tourism trade is the professionalization of around 20,000 people, before 2014, for the new hotel network. With this in mind the Pernambuco Government will invest around R$20 million in association with the Tourism Ministry, Interamerican Development Bank (BID) and the Bank of Northeast Brazil (BNB).
