The balance in the labor market was positive in Pernambuco in 2009 after a year of economic turmoil in the global context the previous year (2008). Nevertheless, the labor market continued growing in Pernambuco, as a result of the major structuring projects installed and the arrival of a significant number of companies attracted by business opportunities. This growth becomes even more important when considering its spread on the sub-sectors of economic activities. Of the 08 major sectors, six showed a positive balance of employment in 2009. Services, Government, Retail, Manufacturing Industry, and Construction, had the largest share in both 2003 and 2009, with the amount for 2009 more than doubling. This demonstrates consistency with the phase of the investments contributions that arrived in the state, considering that these are the first sectors to realize the expansive effects brought by such an expansion in the local market. There was also a significant increase in average earnings due to the requirement of more specific and better qualified manpower demanded by these big companies.
In the analysis performed with data from RAIS (Annual Social Information Report), Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE), we find a strong concentration of manpower in the sectors of Services, Public Administration, and Manufacturing Industry, with 670,000, 388,000 and 212,000 employed workers, respectively.
